Meet Claire
"My name is Claire and I own and create in the Blue Flame Glass Studio in Reepham. I have been Lampworking for 18 years, and now teach Glassworking experiences to all who wish to give it a try. Introducing people to the intoxicating mixture of Art, History and Science is such a joy for me. I started all those years ago after an episode of Cancer made me rethink my life and kicked me into trying something I have always wanted to try... melting glass! Years of treatment later, and flameworking has been my escape and my therapy, allowing me to lose myself in the flames and molten material, watching it flow into magical looking pieces and taking all my troubles with it. I knew straight away I needed to share this incredible medium with everyone who needed it, which is what brought me to introducing my Glassworking experiences, and also giving talks about glass beads through history to groups and schools.
I do hope you decide to come and visit my studio, whether its to take a look at my glass work or to bring friends and family and have a go for yourselves."

I am excited to say a new online booking system has been added to this website! If you have been gifted a voucher, then just head straight to the booking section!
Each session slot can be booked for yourself and up to three of your family/friends.
I look forward to welcoming you behind the flames!

The Blue Flame Workshop is at Salle Moor Hall Farm, near Reepham in Norfolk. Visiting is by appointment only, but just get in contact and I will be happy to meet you there. Don’t forget to look out for open studio dates throughout the year too!
PLEASE NOTE: Sat Navs and Google Maps will take you to the old farm house entrance gates. The entrance to the estate where the businesses are is just a minute further along the wood dallling road towards Reepham. It has a big board with all the business names at the entrance!
-
Yes! We have loads of free parking. Go past the businesses welcome board at the entrance, follow the driveway down to the ’farm’ area and you can park in either of the two parking areas on the left. If you have booked an appointment, I will be looking out for you and will come out to meet you!
-
Currently visits to the workshop are by appointment only. This is because while teaching I want to ensure my customers get my full attention! You are welcome to pop your head in and say hello if you are there but please remember glassworking needs concentration so I may not be able to stop and talk if I have learners in. I’m not being rude! But my students have paid for that time and deserve my undivided attention!
-
I adore teaching children glassworking, so no I do not have an age limit on the lessons. Just some guidance! You know your child and whether they will enjoy it or have the attention span to enjoy it!
I am happy to trust this!
Children cannot be left with me unattended however, so it is important that you realise the session will be a joint one between yourself and your child. I must have the parent or guardians permission, so bringing grand children, or nieces and nephews is fine, as long as this permission is given, and you are happy to sign to say this is so. It is also up to you to ensure your child uses the protective equipment provided, however I make it as fun and relaxed as possible, so they are often better at wearing it than the adults are.
I would also only ever suggest booking the 1 hour session per child. Even the best children tend to have short attention spans and all those flames and creativity can be very tiring!
Over the last 15 years i have had lots of experience going into schools to teach children in years 7, 8 and 9 and understand how experiences like this can be so important. Please do get in touch if you have any questions.
-
Smiles, creativity and enthusiasm! And if you wear glasses then don’t forget those.
Contact lenses are fine but you will be in a hot dry environment so do bare that in mind.
-
Layers is always best for glassworking. Especially in the winter months it can start off chilly in the workshop but you will soon warm up behind the flames! Jeans are a good idea but not essential. Just no shorts or flowing skirts, or loose baggy sleeves.
If you have long hair please bring a hair band to tie it back to keep it away from the flames.
Please wear sensible footwear, no flip flops or sandals.
-
Sadly due to hygiene regulations and not being a food safe environment, plus new rules with allergens etc, I’m unable to offer drinks or snacks at the workshop. I will provide bottles of water to keep you hydrated, and I actively encourage you to bring your own refreshments and nibbles. Food really boosts the creativity, and it’s important to take a short break for refreshments during the longer 3 hour sessions.
There is also a wonderful Coffee shop and also Brewery on site that are open at various times, and a lovely cafe just down the road at at the old Reepham station.
-
Absolutely! I am happy for any photos or videos to be taken, and love it when you share them on your social media! Not only does it give you something to remember the experience by, but it also really helps me as a small business get the word out there to other people!
-
They certainly can. I have a sofa area they can sit on or they are welcome to stand and watch.
-
Anything I have made in the past can be made again, however it will never be exactly the same, though that is the beauty of it! Each piece will be unique to you. You can also ask for previous designs in any colours and sizes, so while you are at it, why not design your very own piece with me?
-
I love doing commission work, and have worked with lots of customers and other designers over the years doing just that. Wether its for weddings, photoshoots, cosplays and more, I love a challenge and welcome your suggestions.
-
It is completley natural to feel a bit nervous! I would always encourage you to give it a try, but I will never force you. The sessions can be just as enjoyable if you spend the time guiding me to make your designs for you, without doing the hot and flamey part. You are also welcome to exchange the vouchers for finished pieces instead.
The vouchers have no cash value and cannot be refunded as such.
-
Anything you or I make during the session will be heated to 1200 degrees, and has to cool very slowly and go through an annealing process in my Kiln. This means that the pieces have to stay with me overnight at the very least. I will usually post your finished pieces to you with Royal Mail, or you can arrange collection.
-
Yes! Please get in touch via the Contact us page to discuss your needs. I would suggest the ideal size for a larger party is 6 people, but more can be accommodated depending on budget and what you would like to create.
-
I’m pleased and proud to say this workshop is all on one level, allowing easier access with no steps, however please note the door is a standard door that opens to 30 inches wide. I do hope to get this widened at some point but unfortunately it is currently out of my budget! Please do let me know if you would like to book in with a wheelchair , as I will do everything to help make this happen for you and also due to the nature of the process glass can and will end up on the floor! Prior notice allows me time to sweep and hoover the floor thoughrally before you arrive. I’m more than happy to try and help anyone with any level of ability to Flamework, please do get in touch before hand so we can work out the best way for you personally.
-
Firstly, congratulations! However I would not suggest flameowrking while pregnant. Though i keep the workshop well ventilated, and there is no concrete scientific proof that it could cause a problem, we will be working with glass enamels and fumes so it is not worth the risk. If your vouchers valid until date is due before you are then please do not worry, i will honour it whenever you are ready once baby has arrived. Just get in touch.
-
I get asked this a lot. It is a beautiful memorial, but I’m afraid it is not something I offer at the Blue Flame Glass Studio. I’m happy to discuss this or suggest other options however.
-
There are some stunning walks in the area however I cannot suggest you bring any furry friends or little ones into the studio due to the nature of the work and the glass and sharp tools lying around. If you are flameworking yourself you also need to pay all your attention to it with no distractions!
-
Yes. Absolutely. We can make anything!
